He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction (2 Peter 3:16 NIV).
Our theme verse is an account of the Apostle Peter speaking about Apostle Paul's letters. He states that some of the writings of Paul (i.e. his letters to the churches) are difficult to understand. Carefully note that Peter said these writings were difficult to understand, not impossible. This means it's actually possible to understand the writings of Paul.
It's of significant importance for us the body of Christ (the church) to know and understand these difficult writings. Let's take a study into the letters and to gain a better understanding of what Peter's referring to when he says the writings were difficult to understand.
Note: As we go through this, be on the lookout for words such as "mysteries, secret, hidden or difficult to understand." These are words to pay attention to when studying the epistles for these are possibly the writings Peter was referring to.
The first letter is from 1 Corinthians 15:51 (MSG), "But let me tell you something wonderful, a MYSTERY I’ll probably never fully understand. We’re not all going to die— but we are all going to be changed." This is a mystery revealed to us; he says we're not all going to die! Timothy communicates in 2 Timothy 1:10 that Jesus has abolished death and has brought life and immortality. You see, Jesus didn't come to give us healing or financial breakthrough, He came to give us life (the very life and nature of God), and with this supernatural life in us, there's definitely no room for death, sickness or poverty; rather, we walk in divine health, prosperity and success, Glory to God.
Our second letter of study is in Ephesians 5:30 and it reads, "For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones." Verse 32 of the same chapter reads, "This is a great MYSTERY: but I speak concerning Christ and the church." Notice here that the Apostle Paul refers to this as "a mystery," but thank God it has been revealed to us! We now know and understand that we're members of the body of Christ, that we're in an inseparable union with Him, and that life and immortality is our portion, Hallelujah!
Observe Paul's writing in Colossians 1:26-27 (NKJV) which brings us to our third letter. He says "the MYSTERY which has been HIDDEN from ages and from generations but now has been REVEALED to His saints. To them, God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this MYSTERY among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." Something very important to note here is that in the Old Testament God's people had to enter into His presence, they had to do things such as to worship in order to attract His presence, however as revealed in the scriptures we just read above, things have changed.
Today, God lives in us and fully operates in us. He has made us His living tabernacle and permanent dwelling place! Moreover, when God came to live in us, He came with all His glory, power, anointing, righteousness, and divine abilities! It is no wonder Apostle John testified that as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17)! Oh, this is something to shout about!
In closing, the Holy Spirit in us is the one who has brought to our knowledge and understanding these wonderful realities (1 Corinthians 2:10 NKJV). We have life and immortality, we are one with the Lord and Christ lives in us. Having come to the knowledge and understanding of such truths every Christian ought to function in the God-class, reigning in this world as predestined by our Father.
The Holy Spirit in me has revealed unto me all hidden mysteries and secrets. My mind has been opened to understand all truths. I now know the glorious plans God has for my life, and through His Word, I walk in the reality of them without failure, in Jesus's name. Amen.
